An A-to-z On Reasonable Secrets

Train like a firefighter with this workout routine at home

PHOTO: Members of the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) demonstrate workout moves they use to stay in life-saving shape. The goal is to get the maximum amount of work done within the four minutes. For this move, firefighters are tasked with lifting oddly loaded objects with power and speed, and the d-ball weight is a great implement to do that. Whether it’s lifting equipment, a civilian or a downed firefighter, the ability to manipulate and lift that load quickly and efficiently is paramount to a firefighter's success. To do this move, simply start with the d-ball weight on the ground, lift it up over your shoulder and drop it on the ground behind you. Then turn around and repeat. Firefighters, especially in urban settings, are often tasked with moving heavy loads vertically, and while it may be nice to work out with a balanced load, their tools and situations don't always allow for that. Using an unevenly loaded weight while doing lunges helps to build leg strength, but also helps to build a strong core and upper body. Tanzosh says they typically will use a rolled-up fire hose as their uneven weight. This move works out your upper body, and the pushing strength that is built is essential for firefighting operations, according to Tanzosh.

Reasonable Solutions Clarified

Home Depot Reverses Course and Offers Employee Fired for Responding to Customer's Racist Rant His Job Back [Updated]

Look at that—service journalism, and journalists working together! In the words of Ice Cube, “today was a good day.” This is America ... where, if you are an employee at Home Depot, you’re apparently expected to take repeated verbal abuse from a customer without verbally responding, however calmly, yourself. Maurice Rucker, 60, lost his job at an Albany, N.Y., Home Depot after he said he was subjected to racist verbal abuse, which he said was unlike anything he’s ever experienced. The fall out has left him shocked, WNYT reports.   Rucker said the incident all started last Thursday when a customer approached checkout with an unleashed dog. “I said to him, ‘Sir, when you have your dog in here we prefer that you keep it on a leash.’” He turned around and said, ‘Fuck you. You’re an asshole you’re a piece of shit,’” Rucker recalled. The customer didn’t stop there, adding, “If Trump wasn’t president, you wouldn’t even have a job” and “You’re from the ghetto, what do you know?’” according to Rucker. “I’ve lived all over the country and I’ve had no one talk to me the way that this guy talked to me,” Rucker said.
